Marc Overmars: Ajax director of football leaves job after 'improper messages' to female colleagues

Marc Overmars left his part as director of football affairs at Ajax after the Dutch club said he sent a "progression of unseemly messages to a few female colleagues".
An Ajax proclamation said the previous Arsenal and Barcelona winger would leave "with prompt impact".
The 48-year-old had been in the job starting around 2012 and had as of late marked an agreement expansion until June 2026.
Overmars said he was "embarrassed" and that his conduct was "unsuitable".
"Last week I was gone up against with reports about my conduct and how this has run over to other people," Overmars told Ajax's site.
"Sadly, I didn't understand that I was going too far with this; however that was clarified to me as of late. I am sorry.
"Positively for somebody in my position this conduct is inadmissible. I currently see that yet it is past the point of no return. I see no other choice except for to leave Ajax."
Overmars showed up for Ajax somewhere in 1992 and 1997 and won three association titles, the Dutch Cup and the Champions League, before joining Arsenal in 1997, where he won the twofold with the Gunners.
He burned through 10 years as director of football affairs at Ajax with administrative board executive Leen Meijaard depicting Overmars as "the best football director Ajax has had".
"This is what is happening for all interested parties," Meijaard added.
"It is obliterating for the ones who have needed to manage this conduct. Whenever we heard the news, we promptly acted.
"He has truly gone over the line and proceeding as director was impossible, as he perceived himself. It is incredibly agonizing for everybody."
Previous partner and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar added that he tracked down what is going on "horrifying for everybody".
"I feel capable to help colleagues," he said.
"A protected game and working environment are vital. We will focus harder on this later on.
"Marc and I have been playing together since the mid 1990s and we have been colleagues for very nearly 10 years now. That has now arrived at an exceptionally unexpected end."
Ajax is top of the Eredivisie after 21 games.
