And this can be said that the six elements play a crucial role and the main aim behind introducing the concept of the 6C's was to give the best care to the patients every day. Although the world is developing every single day and thus making new contributions to advancements, the six standards will remain constant and healthcare professionals will adhere to this principle. These six standards empower healthcare professionals to overcome all the challenges they encounter in their professional fields, so it is advantageous to stick to these standards, whatever the situation.
The introduction of 6C’s
The 6C’S was first introduced by NHS England's Chief Nursing Officer. Jane Cummings, in December 2017. They were established to help define and articulate the ideals that should guide the practices and culture of healthcare organizations that provide care and support. Nurses serve as the backbone of the healthcare industry and thus the 6 Cs, a national care strategy, were established to guarantee that all nurses function according to the same set of ideals. They are as follows:
Care
“Care" is the core of the nursing practice, to put this into practice, the nurses should give priority to the needs and wants of their patients. This helps to improve their well-being. Along with this, it is the care that helps nurses to build a strong relationship with their patients thus they feel more safe and comfortable. Apart from this effective care can work beyond the medicines and thus foster the recovery rate. Caring comes if nurses are empathetic towards their patients this allows them to understand their patient's situation by putting themselves in their soles.
Compassion
Compassion is the ability of the nurses or the healthcare providers to build a strong relationship with their patients and this depends upon some factors namely, empathy, respect, a dignity. Along with this compassionate nurse always remains active listener and give a touch of comfort to their patients. Compassion empowers nurses to deliver the best possible care to their patients and can thus make a difference between simply providing healthcare and truly making a patient journey more comfortable and bearable for them
Courage
Throughout their careers, nurses with courage make the right decisions and act in their patients' best interests. They plan for the services as per their unique demands. To do that nurses should also embrace to new advanced technology and advanced medication, this empowers them to adjust to new situation and conquer any obstacle that comes their way.
Communication
This is one of the most important standards, as with the help of communication nurses build a strong relationship with their patients, their colleagues, and team members. Along with communication nurses should also give priority to listening, this helps to understand their concerns and thus empowers nurses to build effective treatment plans for them. Along with this, they feel they are being heard so they feel more valued.
Commitment
The nursing profession demands dedication and commitment, this means nurses should be available whenever their patients need them, there is no boundary to time. Giving the extra time either saves a life not fosters the well-being of the individuals or patients.
Competence
This profession demands competence as a single error can take a life, so a wrong decision gives life-threatening risks to the patients. So to avoid such situations nurses should have depth knowledge of advanced technologies, medicine and treatment plans. This understanding enables them to make the best treatment plan for their patients. Patients highly depend on the nurses and having strong competence makes their job role easier and gives them strength to overcome challenges and critical cases.
Conclusion
The 6C's of nursing involve Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Commitment, and Competence. These 6 standards are the guiding principles for nurses and healthcare professionals, and adhering to these principles empowers them to provide the best possible care for their patients. Also by adhering to these principles nurses show empathetic behaviour towards patients, provide comfort and support them throughout their critical journey. So when nurses embody this principle, they make a lasting impact on the lives of the patients. Along with this nurses should keep themselves updated with advanced technologies and medicines, this enables them to plan the best treatment plan for their patients. So this can be said that students pursuing nursing degrees should emphasize more on 6C's this will help them to thrive in their professional lives.
